round 2 2010 #2

Shannonville Motorsport Park, Long Track, May 15-17, 2010

Sunny skies, a large attendance of racers and fans came out for Round Two of the Race Super Series held this past weekend at Shannonville Mortorsport Park. With rumours of a few of the National Series Pro’s coming to test they rewarded the fans that did show with a great weekend of action. Jodi had a good weekend with a win in Superbike and another first place and a lap record in Pro 600.

Starting out the weekend on Friday practice we were greeted by cloudy skies in the morning but it slowly burnt off and he was able to get out in the last morning session to test a few new components. By the afternoon he was circulating the Durham Honda Powerhouse/BluestreakRacing Honda CBR600RR in comfort turning in times of 145.226, not to far off the pace. Saturday morning there was some time to finish setting up the bike with John Sharrard of Accelerated Technologies and lead mechanic Jim Brooks pretty much nailing the setup in time for the afternoon heat races.

Mounting a new set of Pirelli’s for the heat races set us up for the first qualifier where Jodi got a good start and was soon in the lead and on his way to a win with the lap record falling with a time of 144.655. With a break before Superbike there was time to relax and catch a few races. Starting on the second spot of the grid for the heat race Jodi had a good battle with Frank Trombino and passed for the lead once again with a top time of 144.733. People were commenting that it was one of the best battles in a race they had seen for a while.

Sunday bought more nice weather and it looked like after Saturday that the competition would be stiff. Lining up on pole for the Pro 600 Jodi got a poor start and had to work his way through, eventually he was able to get by Frank and crossed the line in first place with a new lap record 144.617. Another very exciting race.

A nice gap in the schedule put the team at ease with time to go over the bike and prepare for the Superbike Feature. Once again starting from pole he got a reasonable start but was not able to get around the new BMW of Nelson until the 4th lap, by this time Frank had gapped the two by over 4 seconds. Working from his pitboard Jodi knew he had his work cut out for him. 4 seconds in 4 laps to challenge for the win looked impossible as everyone knows Trombino is strong at this track. Jodi put his head down and within three laps passed him going into the hairpin, with a good drive and a strong Fast Company motor Jodi was able to hold him off for the win by just over a second with a fast lap time of 144.219 a new lap record until it was found out after that Francis Martin on his new BMW 1000 had outdone him by over a half second in the final laps.

To say this weekend was an exciting time for all who were there would definitely be an understatement, with some of the best racing and weather it made for a perfect weekend. Once again a great weekend for the team, and the main people behind it deserve the credit. Jim Brooks Head Mechanic put in another long three days and had the bikes in top form, John Sharrard of Accelerated Technologies was there to fine tune the suspension throughout the weekend, the new Elka Suspension shock worked very well in the hot conditions. Tony Blue of BlueStreakRacing just keeps coming through with lots of new pieces and the Pirelli Tires from Orion Motorsports worked very well the whole weekend

Next up for the team is Round One of the Parts Canada Superbike Series held on the Icar Circuit in Mirabel, Quebec May 28-30 2010
