Round 6 of the 2014 Mountain Dew AMA ATV National Motocross Series headed to the “Land of 10,000 lakes”. Spring Creek Motocross Park in Millville, MN played host to Cody Janssen and the rest of the world’s best ATV motocross racers. This weekend not only had all the customary events: Pro, Pro Am, and amateur races, but also tricycle and pit bike races for charity. “This is going to be a fun weekend!”
Cody said Thursday. “We have some specialty events this weekend and I’m really looking forward to doing that for a good cause! And I’ve always thought Millville was an amazing place, so it’s safe to say I’m looking forward to everything about this weekend!” On Friday night, all the fun would begin. With all the proceeds going to sidelined riders’ medical bills, people came out in droves for the evening’s pit bike races. The headlining event was a star studded TRX90 class that saw Cody Janssen, Joel Hetrick, Jeffrey Rastrelli, Sean Taylor, and others battle it out on mini quads. Then the monstrous crowd watched top pros, parents, and mechanics do battle on tricycles, which was quite a spectacle. But as the sunlight faded away Friday evening, so did pure fun and enjoyment as things were about to get much more serious with Saturday’s Pro Class racing. To keep it short and sweet, Cody Janssen’s day was very disappointing. After qualifying well, Janssen would see a coil wire break in Moto 1, keeping him from finishing the moto. In moto 2 while running 11th, he would have another electrical problem. But Cody, being as crafty as he is, was able to rig it up well enough on the side of the track to be able to make some additional laps late in the race and score some valuable points. Even with the tough luck and mechanical failures, Janssen was able to salvage 14th Overall and add to his top Pro Class Rookie position with just 3 races remaining.
After a tough outing the previous day, the 22 year old Janssen looked to redeem himself in the Pro Am class Sunday. Bad luck has plagued him throughout the course of the year but today in the valley of beautiful Millville, MN, there would be a fresh breath of air. Janssen wouldn’t find himself near the front at the start of Moto 1, but he was able to fight and claw his way to a 4th place finish by moto’s end. A nagging back injury would hinder him in Moto 2, but the 6th place finish on the day wasn’t anything to be ashamed of. “I really wanted to put on a show for all my local support that came out for me this weekend, but I guess sometimes it’s just out of your control.” Janssen said solemnly Sunday. “I was happy, very happy, to put my FSI/Janssen Motorsports machine in the top 5 this morning, but nothing else came easy this weekend. That darn coil wire yesterday…twice. But sometimes you have to count your blessings; I’m healthy, I made up points this weekend in both classes, and we’ll be strong at Unadilla. When you put it like that, how can you complain? (Smiling) God is great!”
