Wittmann, AZ (2/28/2019) – “The RS1 felt so good,” exclaimed Pro Motorsports’ Matt Hancock as he drove the single seat Polaris RZR RS1 to a fifth-place finish in the Pro Stock SXS portion of the WORCS Series races in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Hancock is competing for Polaris in both the SXS Pro and Pro Stock classes this year.
High lake levels forced officials to change the course completely this year. The RS1 was perfect on the tighter circuit. Despite getting pushed off the track at the start, Hancock used the lagoon jump to make up time and he finished fifth.
“The lagoon jump didn’t hold up well and it deteriorated pretty fast during the race,” said Hancock. “It made a difference though because people were trying to clear it smoothly and they were taking different lines around it. It was a good opportunity for me to make up time and my car was able to consistently hit that jump.”
In SXS Pro, Hancock made it up into the top three and was running strong when bad luck struck. A rock lodged in his drive line and locked up the car. The unfortunate luck caused his race to be over.
“It was going great until it wasn’t,” said Hancock. “I worked my way up into the top three and the car felt really good out there. With Havasu, you never know what’s going to happen. I had some issues and some rocks got into the driveline and locked up the car. It’s frustrating to run up front and end up broken. I’m looking forward to rebounding at the next race.”
Carnage was high during the SXS races with broken cars and parts strewn about the race track, but Hancock’s RZRs were up to the challenge. His Maxxis Tires with Tire Blocks and Elka Suspension took everything in style.
“There were so many rocks out there and the course was super rough, but the Maxxis Tires with Tire Blocks were ripping out there,” said Hancock. “The track got rougher as the race progressed and the Elka Suspension just took it. I put my car through the ringer this weekend, and it took it like a champ.”
Hancock is looking forward to the next race, also being held in his home state of Arizona. Round three of the WORCS Championship is scheduled for March 22-24 at Canyon MX in Peoria, AZ.
