Baron Recovering from Tough Canyon WORCS Run
Peoria, AZ• Round 2• Race Report
Atascadero, CA (2/16/2021) –CST’s Beau Baron had three excellent runs going, but bad luck sidelined his efforts in round two of the WORCS championship at Arizona’s Canyon MX. Baron is competing in both Pro SXS classes, as well as the Pro ATV championship this season.
The Canyon course was as rough as ever and the it, unfortunately, played havoc in all three classes. Carnage was widespread. In SXS Pro Stock, Baron took the holeshot and was gapping the field when the rocks caused an issue on his Polaris RZR RS1. He pitted, made repairs, and came back out to finish ninth.
“I got the holeshot and I was ripping,” said Baron. “Haagsma was right behind me and we were moving out on the pack big time. I knew I had an issue so I came into the pit, fixed it, and finished ninth which isn’t bad considering. I was happy to finish, but I was bummed to not get the win because I think I deserved that one.”
In SXS Pro Production, Baron got off to another great start, but after making contact with another car on the first lap a broken front upright put him out of contention. Baron did attempt to make repairs.
“I did some bushwhacking and tried to run to get parts,” said Baron. “I got it to where I could work on it, but by the time I got it buttoned up I realized I wasn’t going to make half of the laps so I called it. I did my best to get back out there and get points.”
In Pro ATV, Baron led every lap of the race, but his run of bad luck showed up again. With less than a lap left, Baron got stuck in a group of lappers. Trying to negotiate through them caused his engine to overheat. So strong was his lead that despite being towed across the line, he still finished fourth.
“There were five kids just sitting there waiting to get up there so I tried to work my way through and I almost made it to the top, but I just didn’t make it,” said Baron. “I gave it a few runs which got my bike really hot and seized it up. I guess that’s the way it goes. At one point I had a two-and-half minute lead. It was nice putting down today; It just didn’t end the way I wanted.”
Baron will be back in action when WORCS returns to Lake Havasu City, AZ March 19-21.
